« The Challenges of Working in Hedge Fund Investing - Shaheen Wirk »

In Chapter 15 of 17 in his 2012 Capture Your Flag interview, hedge fund analyst Shaheen Wirk answers "What Have You Found to Be Most Challenging About Hedge Fund Work?"  Wirk notes that hedge fund job challenges are often emotional, where you lose money on investment decisions that rationally should make money.  Wirk also notes how hedge fund firm job fit is very dependent on cultural fit, in particular with the owner or leadership.  Lastly, Wirk discusses the core nature of hedge fund analyst work, making bold decisions on investment positions and needing to know when to back down from a position and when to hold it.  Shaheen Wirk is a senior hedge fund analyst for Bridger Capital focused on pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device investment research and analysis.  Wirk earned his BS in Biology and Joint MD / MBA degrees from Duke University.  He co-founded the Dream Hope Believe Foundation / Brant Walton Memorial Fund to provide grants to children and young people who have lost parents to cancer.
